I am setting up a marketing campaign titled STAYIN FLY ON MY OWN SUPPLY showing the tshirt graphics I have designed and printed in the past 3 years. The illustrations will be used in a catalogue together with designs by other members of the Ifreecans Collective due out at some point in 2010 as well as promotional postcards.
Different places, different things…time out from London has made me remix a classic and add some colour…enjoy. Me thinks it will make a good print…..watch this space
I did a few illustrations for my colouring book for my final year uni project. Thought I might try my hand at adding colour to the images….see results below….more to come
Me thinks I have left the best till last. I think Just A Band are a truly exciting combination of geeky, creative and enchanting minds. For me they are continuously pushing the boundaries of the e.a music and creative scene and long may it last…
KNAAN = The dusty Foot Philosopher…there’s too much to say about KNAAN but his body of work speaks on his behalf. You probably have heard him and not been aware of it if not…keep an eye out or check his website below
ALBUMS: My Life is a Movie, The Dusty Foot Philosopher, The Dusty Foot on the Road, Troubadour
I came across Emmanuel Jaal’s music after viewing his documentary WARCHILD. His story, message, drive, music and energy as a person is uplifting,. Another neo-african musician to watch out for if you have not yet come across him.
I was going to fill my blog with you tube videos of my selection of some of the hottest neo-african music, but thought that illustrating the bands and individuals would be good for the portfolio and also exercise my portrait skills.
First on my playlist is Sauti Sol….not your average east african bongo or genge sound. Listening to them live is worth its while, caught them last week at a gig in Covent Garden and looking forward to hearing more stuff from them.
Working with the Ifreecans Collective for the past one and a half years has heavily influenced much of my recent work and work ethic. My colour pallete has been all but transformed and we just feed of each others work, ideas and presence……long may it last. Below, some collaborative and individual pieces I have been working on recently…enjoy
